Dear Athletes!
Here
we are about to complete the '06 journey and I'm
astonished how rapidly the months flew by! New,
successful events, record turnouts and more exciting
events on the calendar for '07. We really are
fortunate in our state-wide community!
November was particularly fun for me. We had the good
fortune to stay up near Estes Park with a terrific
couple, Jaqui and Terry Chiplin who have created
"Active at Altitude" (see my new favorite web site
below). If you're like me, you wish you could get
away occasionally to peace and quiet for the sole
purpose of rest and recreation. For me that
translates into running on hills and trails where the
air is super fresh (albeit a bit rarified at 8000+
feet!) and you're not dodging vehicles. This is my
new favorite place...not expensive, nearby and
managed by a truly enjoyable couple from England.
It's also great for a running or triathlon club
getaway!
After spending two nights with them, I got to hook up
on a training run with the Fleet Feet Boulder running
group thanks to the Chiplins. They have a great group
and were very gracious to an outlander like me!
Speaking of Boulder, Mark Plaatjes' store, Boulder
Running Company was ranked the #1 specialty retail
store in the country! I specifically mention Mark
because he's lending his time and talent to also help
USA Track and Field to energize the long distance
running component here in Colorado and is providing
assistance to Peter Julian for the February National
Cross Country Championships also in Boulder (www.usatf.com/events/2007/USAXCChampionships)
More on running store stuff... I reacquainted myself
with Runner's Roost (S. Colorado/Mexico) by helping
with registration for three days for the Mile High
United Way Turkey Trot. The Roost staff are some of
the nicest, friendly and "plugged-in" customer
service people I've ever met. From the Roosts to the
several Boulder Running Company stores to Running
Wild and Fleet Feet, we've got it all here on the
front range!
I promised a friend of mine, Keith Deline that I
would highlight his company's gift program (he's also
providing the on-line retail store for the '07
Post-News Colorado Colfax Marathon www.specialtyincstores.com/colfax
). It's a useful way to get a bunch of gifts with
"one-stop" shopping.
Our favorite, Panera Bread is bringing a Panerathon
5K to Colorado on September 23rd of '07! Watch for
info and updates in our Newsletter and at other
events where Panera Bread is feeding us at the finish
line! To find the location nearest you, type in your
zip code through this link: www.panerabread.com.
Please accept my thanks for supporting our calendar
of events and we look forward to seeing you in '07
(or maybe at Steve's Rudolph Ramble 5K on December
17th)!!

Runner's Edge of the Rockies

Seasons
Greetings Runners!
The 2006 running season is drawing to a
close... And that means the 2007 running season
is just around the corner! It's never too early
to start thinking about your training plans for
the upcoming year: Will you be running your
first half, full or ultra marathon in 2007?
Will you be shooting for a faster time? Or will
you just be out to have fun and enjoy running
with friends? Either way, you should train for
a "PR" experience, as in Personally
Rewarding!!
Here's a quick look at what's new in 2007 from
Runner's Edge of the Rockies!
- We've got a BRAND NEW WEBSITE! Check
it out at www.RunnersEdgeoftheRockies.com
and we will be updating it often.
- We've added a walking program to our
upcoming 2007 Spring Training Session which
begins on January 20th. As the official
coaches of the Post-News Colorado Colfax
Marathon, we have a specific walking training
program designed for people walking the half
marathon.
- We're excited to announce a new Online
Training Option with features to maximize and
enhance your training experience.
- And off course, we've added MORE new
fantastic training routes to explore during
your long Saturday morning runs with the
group.
But along with these changes, we'll still offer
the same fantastic organization, training
program and year-round group support that will
take your running to the next level. So lace em' up to come run with the group, and give
your training the EDGE!
