Dear Athletes!
Finally
there's
sunshine on
the plains
of
Colorado
and great
weather in
the forecast
for Sunday,
March 11th!
Take
advantage of
the
improving
weather and
sign up for
the Runnin'
of the Green
Lucky 7K on
March 11th
and the St.
Patty's Day
Run For the
Green 5K on
March 17th www.bkbltd.com/calendar.htm .
These are
two great
events and
can
jumpstart
your Spring
fitness
schedule!
From time to
time I
mention Jeff
Galloway and
his training
programs and
books.
Guess what?
He'll be in
town for a
limited
visit the
weekend of
March 17th
as well!
Check out
the info on
his "Denver
Kickoff"
that
weekend!
The new
course from
Aurora
Sports Park
to
Colorado
Mills in
Lakewood is
in the final
refining
stages and
the new
certified
map should
be on line
at
www.coloradocolfaxmarathon.org
or
www.racemeasure.com
by the 15th
of March.
I like the
changes,
especially
the Sloan's
Park, City
Park and
Fitzsimons amendments.
You know
what they
say: "know
your fitness
level and
know the
course to be
on top"!
My training
for Enschede
took a
reversal at
the end of
February due
to picking
up a cold
overseas
visiting my
daughter at
the U. of
Madrid.
With two
months to
go, let's
see if I can
do what I
tell others
to do: be
patient and
try to not
to
compensate
for the
lost 10
days of
training!
It's all
very
frustrating
but I keep
remembering
WHY I'm
doing it:
to raise
money for
the Leukemia
and Lymphoma
Society in
the memory
of my friend
Jim Ulrich.
Please help.
Here's how:
My minimum
goal is
$5600 ($100
for each
year of his
incredibly
productive
and
interesting
life).
If you want
to support
this effort,
send your
$100 checks
(or more,
please!) made
payable to:
Leukemia and
Lymphoma
Society,
5353
W.Dartmouth
Ave, Suite
400, Denver,
CO 80227.
Note that it
is in memory
of Jim
Ulrich and
note that it
is part of
C. Kelley's
TNT campaign.
None
of the
revenue will
go toward
ANY of my
expenses.
You can also
go on-line
to
www.leukemia-lymphoma.org,
scroll down
to designate
"in memory
of" Jim
Ulrich and
designate
our chapter
"CO - Rocky
Mountain
Chapter".
I especially
want to
thank Renee
Hamilton,
Jeff
Stankiewicz
and Jerry
Golley for
stepping up
with the
earliest,
generous
contributions!
In case you
missed it,
there is an
incredibly
cool
initiative
by the
Denver
Rescue
Mission,
partnering
with the
Colorado
Colfax
Marathon to
get 18 guys
ready to do
Colfax
(either the
half or the
full)!
Read about
it on line
at the
marathon web
site!
Finally, I
want to
bring your
attention to
a new event
that's on
our calendar
in April.
It's
important
and should
be great fun
for all of
us!

The "behind
the scenes
stories"
about
athletes and
Epilepsy are
incredible
and that's
why the
story below
is my
"website of
the month"!
Take a look.

Post-News Colorado Colfax Marathon - May
20
Register in March and get a t-shirt that is as unique as Colfax itself
Register in
the month of March for the full marathon, half marathon or
5-person team relay on May 20, 2007 and you will receive a
free “Run Colfax” cotton tee to train in. Look great and run
strong as you prepare for the second annual Post-News
Colorado Colfax Marathon.
This year
we have improved the course dramatically. Although we
couldn’t take ALL the hills out of Lakewood, we have changed
the location of the finish to the front of Colorado Mills
reducing the final climb by half a mile. Also new this year,
we will be spending more time in the recently completed
University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. Finally,
construction in City Park has limited the mileage available
there, so we will be heading off Colfax around Sloan’s Lake.
The
establishment of the Colorado Running Hall of Fame (CRHF)
was undertaken by the Colfax Marathon Partnership, Inc.
Board of Directors in October 2006. The intent of the
Marathon Board was to facilitate and guide the creation and
activation of the Colorado Running Hall of Fame.
Colorado has one of the highest concentrations of world and
American record holders and Olympic and world championship
medal winners in the nation. The establishment of the CRHF
is an outstanding way to recognize Colorado residents who
have achieved national and international recognition on the
long-distance running stage. The CRHF is employing similar
selection criteria as the highly regarded National Distance
Running Hall of Fame.
Who’s
Eligible? Nominees
must:
Be a
resident of Colorado for not less than 10 years
Have participated in no fewer than five
national/international competitions Be ranked nationally/internationally by an appropriate governing body for at least two years Have won
no less than five events Be a recipient of national/international medal distinction Represent the sport appropriately and respectfully Be considered a positive example for youth development Contribute to the growth and development of the sport Support and promote the Colorado Running Hall of Fame
Additional
nominees from other running-related professions (e.g.
coaches, store owners, reporters/journalists, race
directors, etc.) will be considered and selected as
appropriate.
Each year,
five to seven individuals will be inducted into the Colorado
Running Hall of Fame.
Selection
Committee The Colfax
Marathon, Inc. Board of Directors carefully selected the
following individuals for the Hall of Fame Selection
Committee. The group is composed of significant people, with
diverse professional histories, from the running community
who meet the selection criteria for Colorado Running Hall of
Fame.
Peter Julian
David Nestor
Ellen Hart-
Peņa Mark
Plaatjes
John

Induction
Ceremony The Denver
Athletic Club (www.denverathleticclub.com)
will serve as the home of the Colorado Running Hall of Fame
and sponsor the first annual induction reception on May 18,
2007.

Mizuno
USA has a bunch of interesting experts that help
spread the word flying the colors of the brand. We've
mentioned Nancy Clark and Jeff Galloway and now I want to
reintroduce you (or introduce you for the first time!) to
Patti Catalano Dillon. Her amazing career in distance
running continues to flourish.
